Anyone can become a writer for Austin Post. Our philosophy – in the spirit of “Of the People, By the People, For the People,” is to encourage the community to contribute to and participate in the conversation. Many of our writers are established journalists and bloggers, but many others are non-professional “citizen journalists” with a provocative point of view and the passion to defend it.
To submit an article for publication, you must first become a registered user of the Austin Post. Registration is easy; there is a link to do so at the upper right hand corner of the home page. We require no personal information other than an email address.
The amount of additional information you may wish to share forms the basis of your Writer Bio, which enables you to tell readers a little bit about yourself as well as promote your own blog, site, or other works of published content.
Articles can be submitted for publication by simply clicking on the Post Articles link in the upper right corner of the page. This will take you to an article entry screen where you can paste text and photos associated with your article.
Once submitted, articles go through a light editorial vetting process and are generally published within 1-2 days of submittal. The degree to which any article is featured on the site is then a function of the community’s reaction to and engagement around the piece.
As the site grows, we also plan on introducing numerous additional benefits for our writers. Our commitment to our writers is to relentlessly innovate to make it as “low effort” and “high reward” as possible to be a regular contributor.
To that end, we've introduced an Austin Post: Writer Advertising Program:
The Austin Post is pleased to offer all article writers complementary advertising space on the Austin Post. All writers are eligible for the program, whether they’ve submitted one article or a hundred.
How It Works
To get started, writers need only upload their advertising copy (a 125 x 90 pixel banner) to their profile page.
We take it from there. The ad will be displayed on the Article Page whenever the user is reading an article by that author.
Soon, we will also support ads in the following places:
- On the Section Page - Whenever an article is designated as a featured article for that section
- On the Home Page - Whenever an article is designated as featured article on the front page
Writers can update their ad copy at their discretion by simply editing their profile information.
As always, we value suggestions on how to improve the program and support our writers.
Comments, suggestions, and criticisms on the entire site are appreciated and can be sent directly to us at editor@austinpost.org
Thanks again for being a part of the Austin Post community!
