I visited Austin photographer and painter, Jann Alexander, to take some pictures of her with her art. Super-saturated images line the walls of her home. Most feature beautiful buildings and signs, details and sky. She has several galleries online, including a terrific series of images called, Vanishing Austin. Check her website for details on other projects, upcoming showings, information on purchasing her art, as well as her ambitious plans for a new community gallery facility. From a recent release she sent to me:
I'm developing a concept for a new visual arts gallery/space in downtown Austin, on or near Congress, that's an interactive and energetic space where fine artists, photographers, collectors, art supporters and those who have a passion for art can meet, mingle, learn, share and connect.
I envision a versatile art space that shares characteristics with, but goes beyond, a traditional gallery:
* to handle fine art and photography retail sales;
* to put on juried and/or thematic art + photo shows;
* to rep artists with solo exhibits;
* to offer art exhibit space rentals to individual artists and groups;
* to offer relevant art + photo workshops (and the rental space for others to put on workshops);
* to host regular art gatherings, art talks for the public and viewings of instructive art/photo videos;
* to hold art + photo book signings and sales;
* to sell self-assisted fine art printing and photoshop access, and custom printing for fine artists;
* to offer event rentals in an artistic atmosphere;
* to provide services that artists need for self-promotion
* to create an energetic, active hub for artists and buyers and art lovers to connect
* to innovate and adapt to what inspires artists and what creates collectors
Right now, I'm seeking Creative and Financial Partners, and I'm putting out a call to anyone interested -- eventually I'll organize a gathering to talk about ideas, so I can assess compatibility of vision, commitment and resources. If you, or anyone you know, wants to be a part of the process, please email me: Jann Alexander <austindetails@mac.com>
And please feel free to share this with other artists, photographers, creatives, and those in complementary lines of work; and with art collectors and supporters who can offer financial and/or advisory assistance.

Jann is an incredibly talented artist. I have the Alamo Drafthouse photo from vanishing Austin hanging in my house.
