John Lennon’s late wife Yoko Ono, will, for the umpteenth time, be opposing the release of the man who killed her husband over 30 years ago.
Mark David Chapman will be coming up for parole next month, according to the lawyer representing Yoko Ono. This is not the first time that Ono has opposed the release of Chapman. She has sent multiple letters to the parole board in the past, so her most recent letter comes as no surprise.
Yoko Ono’s position “has not changed” her lawyer told the media Tuesday. Although it is not known what her most recent letter states, one of her past letters says that in her opinion, Chapman’s release “will bring back the nightmare, the chaos and confusion once again.” She also states that she “and John’s two sons would not feel safe” for the rest of their lives.
John Lennon was a member of the music group, The Beatles. On December 8, 1980, he and Yoko Ono were returning home from a recording session when he was shot to death by Chapman. Mark David Chapman was sentenced to a 20 years to life sentence which he is currently serving. Chapman’s prison record has been clean since 1994 according to the Daily News.
Yoko Ono will probably not have to worry much, because according to Robert Gangi, head of the prisoner’s rights group called Correctional Association of America, it is highly unlikely that Chapman will be released. This is based on the fact that he killed such a high profile person.
