This weekend is the Texas Libertarian Convention in Austin. Most local media pays little attention to the Libertarian Party – but the Austin Post doesn’t follow the pack. We’re fortunate to have Texas Libertarian Party Chairman Pat Dixon as one of our most prolific contributors, and he’ll certainly be very busy at the convention this weekend.
The convention begins today and goes through Sunday at the Holiday Inn at 6000 Middle Fiskville.
What goes on at these party conventions, aside from partying? Members nominates candidates for Governor and other statewide offices, plus adopts new rules and their party platform. The Libertarians being the pro-individual rights party, you can bet this convention is not going to be very conventional.
This year’s speakers include the famed Kinky Friedman, 2006 Texas Independent gubernatorial candidate, author G. Edward Griffin, and 98.9 FM personality Sean Rima.
Some of the topics the attendees will discuss include talk radio, fusion centers, the economy, healthcare and even “How to Make a Living Outside the System – a Practical Guide to starting a Black Market Business.” You aren’t going to find that at the Dem or GOP convention.
Schedule and registration information can be found here.
