Hot Ladies Bring Back the 80s

This weekend offers you two opportunities to relive the phenomenal fashion and totally awesome tunes of the 1980s.

Cover Girl, Austin’s all-ladies, mostly-80s cover band will be on stage at the Thirsty Nickel Friday night. The bar is owned by Brad Womack, star of The Bachelor’s 11th season.

On Sunday evening, the ladies will present a time of reminiscing and dancing the Robot at Antone's. The show will include a prom costume contest, prizes, a dance party, tropical cumberbuns and plenty of tafetta.

In addition to belting out rad songs from the Reagan era, Cover Girl will be selling slap bracelets and just generally channeling the feel-good fun and frivolity of the Decade of Greed.

The Austin Chronicle’s 2009-2010 music awards ranked Cover Girl the city’s #6 best cover band, four spots above Austin’s other esteemed 80’s cover band, The Spazmatics.

Cover Girl ‘s lead singer is Mandy Rowden, founder of Girl Guitar Austin. When Austin Post Editor Karie Melzter was a graduate student, she made the following video about Rowden and Girl Guitar:

Get ready for a Pop-Culture-Palooza this weekend! We have a premier party for the return of Doctor Who, a premier party for the return of Game of Thrones, and a chance to pitch in and help build the only 1:1 replica Star Wars Starfighter in America. Along the way, there’s also LARPing, gaming, and plenty of other geeky get togethers.
