Ben Affleck's “The Town”

Following his directorial debut “Gone, Baby, Gone” in 2007, Ben Affleck returns to Boston to tell the story of “The Town.”

In this latest crime thriller, adapted from Chuck Hogan's novel Prince of Thieves, Affleck had his hands full directing and starring in the film. He plays Doug MacRay, a smart thug whose mother is long gone and whose father is in prison. Doug serves as the team leader of lifelong friends who rob banks for a living.

In a bank robbery, they have to hostage a bank manager named Claire Keesey, as played by Rebecca Hall. Doug falls in love with her and realizes he is willing to change his life for her. However, he must take one last job before he can start anew.

In his review, Joe Gross gives a grade of B- for “The Town,” which you can still catch in some theaters in town.
