"Hereafter” Weaves Three Stories About Death and Afterlife
In “Hereafter,” a psychic, a journalist and a school boy share a story about how death has affected each of them in different ways.
Written by Peter Morgan, “Hereafter” is the latest from Clint Eastwood that stars Matt Damon, Cécile de France and Bryce Dallas Howard.
Marie Lelay (de France), a French TV journalist, is in Thailand on an assignment when she becomes a victim of the devastating tsunami that hit parts of the country. She goes through a near-death experience that changes her life forever.
In London, 12-year-old boy Marcus (Frankie McLaren) losses his twin brother in an accident. Sent to a foster family, he seeks to reunite with his brother for one last time.
As a former professional psychic in San Francisco, George Lonnegan (Damon) escapes his brother who is insisting on reviving his psychic business. Not wanting to go back to the profession that has ruined his blossoming relationship with Melanie (Howard), George goes to London to start anew.
In his review of the film, which he describes as “offering honest-to-goodness psychic phenomena and instances of the dead watching out for the living,” John DeFore gives it a grade of (B-).
“Hereafter” screens in theaters nationwide.
