Meryl Streep as "The Iron Lady"
Meryl Streep may play Margaret Thatcher in an upcoming biopic.
The versatile actress who is highly acclaimed in the fields of art and theater and has been nominated 16 times for an Oscar has expressed interest in portraying the role of the first female prime minister of Britain in a new film according to this article.
Pathe Films, a producer and distributor based in London, said on Thursday that discussions with Meryl Streep's representatives has began, but no agreement has been settled as of yet.
The film with the provisionally titlte "The Iron Lady" is written by Abi Morgan who is known for screenplays like "Sex Traffic" and "Brick Lane."
In a media release, Pathe said the upcoming film "tells the story of a woman who smashed through the barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male-dominated world."
If talks will go well, "The Iron Lady" will reunite Meryl Streep with director Phyllida Lloyd who directed her in the musical/romantic comedy movie, "Mamma Mia!"
"The Iron Lady" is set to start filming at the end of this year.
