Celebrity Cake Pops are Simply Phantastic

By thesavagegourmet / May 23, 2011

A lot of hopeful entrepreneurs rack their brains to come up with the next big thing, often resulting in ridiculous, superfluous inventions, like the Flo Bee hair cutting vacuum. Or Pajama Jeans. But sometimes the greatest products come from putting a personal touch on an already great idea. Kathy Phan of Kathyphantastic was not the first person to ever put a ball of cake on the end of a stick, but her brilliant, detail oriented designs make her cake pops as endearing as they are delicious.

The cake pops are made in collaboration with Jessica Carter Forkner at Objects of Confection. “Her cake is better than mine would ever be,” Phan, who can decorate pops to just about any theme imaginable, says. Some favorites have been pops decorated to look like the characters from “Where the Wild Things Are,” or the badger that she said was, “hard to make look cute.” I have to say the pops she brought me that looked like the members of Kiss and the one of Lady GaGa gave me some coolness credentials when I shared them with some friends I made at the coffee shop.

The most popular flavor is the red velvet but the cherry limeade that Phan says, “tastes just like the drinks from Sonic” would be a fun surprise to bite into. For grown up parties the duo makes liquor infused cake in mudslide or mojito flavors.

To order cake pops for your next party, run-off bribes, or really bad break up, you can contact Kathy Phan. Maybe eating the head of Gene Simmons will inspire you to create the next big thing.
