Mopac to 290 Flyover Approved, Could be Complete by 2011

The Austin City Council approved $13 million plans for two overpasses at the intersection of MoPac and Highway 290.

According to weareaustin.com, thanks to the Pass Through Finance Program approved by the Texas Legislature earlier this year, TXDoT can fast-forward the build. TXDoT will fund 80 percent of the construction with the city funding the remainder.

The City estimates that 400 hours of daily travel will be saved with the new overpass, KXAN reports here.  Air pollution emissions will be reduced by an estimated 386 metric tons of CO2 per year.

Fox7's video has a map of the flyovers:

Get ready for a Pop-Culture-Palooza this weekend! We have a premier party for the return of Doctor Who, a premier party for the return of Game of Thrones, and a chance to pitch in and help build the only 1:1 replica Star Wars Starfighter in America. Along the way, there’s also LARPing, gaming, and plenty of other geeky get togethers.
