Chelsea Hotel Comes to Austin

By stevenblythe / Dec 3, 2010

Punk rock band Chelsea Hotel plays Lovejoy’s Taproom and Brewery on Thursday, Dec. 9. This band comes to Austin from sister-city Houston, and it’s a blast of wah-wah punkiness -- fronted by Robert Conn on guitar and vocals.

Chelsea Hotel’s lead man, Conn was one of the original members of The Pagans from Cleveland, OH. Robert was also on The Plague "Just Say No" classic thrash punk album.

Curt DeGidio handles 2nd guitar for Chelsea Hotel. This great addition helps give the discord and thrash absolutely necessary for this kind of music – straight up, classic punk! Curt hails from Cleveland, OH and did time with The Chrome Kickers as well as other projects.

While Curt helps Conn maintain his high raw edge , bassist duties for Chelsea Hotel are handled by Jewels. Hey, man, she’s all about playin' some kick ass Texas style rock n roll!

Drums? Well, they’re handled by Houston's own Andy Chaos. Andy just kills any drum kit he touches, anytime, anywhere with the power he puts out – but especially with Chelsea Hotel!

Named after the hotel on 222 west 23rd in New York, infamous for housing eclectic artists for years, this is what we Houstonians call Chelsea Hotel. Hey, there’s no need for reservations, and don’t expect to find a bell-hop at the door of Lovejoy’s, but go check into Chelsea Hotel on Thursday, Dec. 9 on Neches Street.

I consider myself the offspring of the Atlanta music scene during the 1990's. After 2 years dividing my time between Seattle and Antartica, and 4 in Hawaii, I am now currently content to remain in the anonymous periphery of the Houston and Austin music scenes. Thus, I rescue this world from the excruciating pain of one more guy with a guitar and minimal talent.
