By DavidKobierowski / Mar 22, 2011

The 29th annual Austin Music Awards took place at Austin Music Hall on Sat., March 19th.  Did you miss it?  No worries, tune into 91.7FM KOOP Radio's "A Neighborly Conversation" on Wed., March 23rd, Noon-1pm to hear a recap of the awards by Margaret Moser, Austin Music Awards Director.

Highlights included performances by Joe Ely, Sahara Smith, Will Sexton, The Bright Light Social Hour, Roky Erickson, Mother Falcon, and others!

Band of the Year went to The Bright Light Social Hour.

Musician of the Year was won by Roky Erickson.

I was happy to see the very talented local folk artist Sahara Smith win Best Folk, Best Female Vocals, and Best Songwriter!! You may recall Sahara performing on the David Letterman show in November.

Best Acoustic Venue went to the Cactus Cafe again (I think that's like the 10th year in a row!).  Congrats to the Cactus!

I was thrilled to see Jeff Lofton win Best Jazz.  Lofton has been a guest on our radio show a few times.  He's a gifted artist, and all around wonderful and caring person.

Be sure to tune-in to hear other highlights from Austin Music Awards Director and Austin Chronicle Senior Staff Writer Margaret Moser during this show!

Karie Meltzer and David Kobierowski will be hosting the show.

Also, we'll have Grammy Award-Winning Country Music Star David Ball join us during this show! You may know Ball from his Multi-Platinum record "Thinkin' Problem," which has sold over 3 Million copies to date.

David Ball is performing this Sunday, March 27th, 6pm at the Swiss Alps Dance Hall in Swiss Alps Texas, about 90 minutes East of Downtown Austin.  More details at:  http://www.myspace.com/davidball/shows

Lastly, we'll be giving away 3 pair of tickets to see 2010 Texas Musician of the Year Sara Hickman on Saturday during this show to the 1st callers to call 512-472-5667 when we announce this gig over the air.  Hickman is performing Sat., March 26th, 7pm at the Austin Acoustic Cafe.  Here's a link to more info about Sara's show: http://www.austinacousticalcafe.com/
