Austin Post 2.0 is Here with Real Time Reporting

Today we're proud to announce Real Time Reporting. Anyone, on the web or on their phone, can send short 105-character reports that will be posted live. The Austin Post 2.0 iPhone app and the widget on the site have a huge potential: to break local news, to alert users of potential issues, and to be an up-to-the-second resource for all things going on in Austin.

To promote the launch of Real Time Reporting, Austin Post is running a series of contests. From November 17 through December 2, there will be a category of report specified. Users who submit a report in that category are automatically entered to

win a corresponding gift certificate

. The details and dates are below:

  • November 17-20: use #traffic to report on congestion, accidents, and more - win $50 gas card

  • November 21-22: use #city to voice your opinion on city issues and politics - win $50 Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf gift card

  • November 23-27: use #food to show off your Thanksgiving spread or a restaurant dish - win $50 gift card to the restaurant of your choice

  • November 28-Dec 2: use #fitness to talk about your workout or post a picture of you working out - $50 lululemon gift card

Our widget has the potential to be really valuable for someone looking for quick-hit news updates. You can see immediate traffic updates, sports scores, crime reports, events, and more.

The iPhone app, Austin Post 2.0, is available in the iTunes app store. If you already have the 1.0 app, it'll update automatically. The on-site real-time widget, Austin in Real Time, is available to anyone with internet access, from a desktop computer to any mobile device.
