Antone's nightclub to close its downtown doors & likely move south (Updated) – YNN/Channel 8
Austin's legendary blues nightclub, Antone's, will close its doors in its current 5th and Lavaca location and relocate outside of downtown. The club's spokesperson, Frank Hendrix, told YNN the club will move sometime after South by Southwest in March, and an announcement naming the new location will come on Jan. 28. Although unconfirmed, YNN's Andy Langer reports that the most likely new location is south of the river – Emo's and the Beauty Ballroom have already relocated to bigger locations on East Riverside.
Culture Map Austin reports that a DIY music and art space, The Infest, will open at 5th & Lavaca on April 1 after Antone's relocates, possibly to the E. Riverside space now occupied by the Beauty Ballroom, reportedly slated to close at the end of January.
