Austin invited to join 2024 Olympics bid – KVUE TV News

By Austin Post Staff / Feb 20, 2013

The City of Austin has been invited to bid to host the 2024 Olympic Games. The Austin Business Journal reports that mayors of 35 cities received letters from the U.S. Olympics Committee to see if they were interested in hosting the games. The ABJ says odds would be stacked against Austin hosting, since big cities are usually chosen for the massive event. The letter stated cities would have to have 45,000 hotel rooms available to host the games. Austin has about 30,000 rooms, according to the ABJ's 2013 Book of Lists.
