Fat Habits to Strip This Year

If you’ve been having trouble sticking to your diet resolution, maybe it’s time to take a look at your lifestyle. Read on to see if you share these habits that make people fat, and make the small but necessary changes in your life on the path to health and fitness. As with all things good for you, moderation is key.

Sleeping Too Little (or too much)
Whether you sleep less than five hours at night, or oversleep more than eight hours, chances are you’re gaining more weight than people who sleep on a fixed schedule of 6-7 hours. Sleep-deprived people tend to eat more because because of tiredness, while oversleepers usually tend to be less active. Either way, you’re screwed unless you stick to a sleep schedule.

Too Little Fat in Your Diet
Believe it or not, you shouldn’t completely leave out some fatty food from your diet. Studies show that substituting a small percentage of fat in your daily caloric intake helps reduce weight and raise blood-insulin levels. A little fat in your diet will also help you feel fuller longer than an all-carb meal.

Serving All Dishes on the Dinner Table
This is probably more psychological than anything else, but scientists have found that people who served food directly from the kitchen ate less than people who served food from the dinner table. They theorize that the distance makes people think twice about getting a second helping.

Being a Couch Potato
Televisions have long been known to be a habit that makes people fat, but there’s still a way to enjoy your favorite programs and still stay on track with your diet: multitasking. Instead of sitting slack-jawed in front of the TV, try washing the dishes, or dusting the furniture. In fact, any activity you do will burn more calories than just watching TV.
