Week in Review: Fashionable/Edible 10.7.2011

Austin's food and fashion bloggers act as our unofficial fun whisperers, town criers and lifestyle experts so if we pay attention we just might learn something.

Fashion:

In January, Trophy Boutique made a valiant promise to herself that except for accessories, she would not buy anything new for one year. While this is easier said than done, she has spent the year looking great in all of her recycled threads from thrift stores and second hand shop but is especially interested in touting the importance of accessories' ability to transform your ordinary wardrobe basics into unique works of art.

Girls on the Style posted a great “how to get the look” piece on wearing the styles of Natalie Wood. They shared their discoveries for current sources for four of Natalie's most memorable styles, so you can look as glamorous as this silver screen star.

Keep Austin Stylish posted about her attendance at Fabricker's recent trunk sale/fundraiser where original and upscale fabrics not usually found in Austin were for on display and for sale. This was just a taste of what we will be getting if Fabricker owner April Kling is able to raise the funds to open her own store here in Austin. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

Food:

This week as temperatures cooled enough to turn on the oven, Salt went looking for recipe inspiration at the little place we often forget about called the Austin Public Library. It is a fabulous reminder that we don't have to spend a fortune when we can simply check out an arm-full of cookbooks to get fresh ideas.

Have you been naïve like me and assumed that big name reality TV shows featured something because they thought it was interesting? Well, we can all wake up now, because according to Relish Austin, the producers of 'Top Chef: Texas' which is set to air this fall, is suing the Texas attorney general for releasing details about the $400,000 deal the show made with the Texas to do the show here. Some cities, like San Antonio, are in denial that they paid money to be featured, but others, like Houston, said they are not featured because they refused to pay for air time with the show.

If you want to know the latest trends in food and fashion, stay tuned in to Austin's bloggers who will tell you where to go and how to look good doing it.

Get ready for a Pop-Culture-Palooza this weekend! We have a premier party for the return of Doctor Who, a premier party for the return of Game of Thrones, and a chance to pitch in and help build the only 1:1 replica Star Wars Starfighter in America. Along the way, there’s also LARPing, gaming, and plenty of other geeky get togethers.
